Rent vs Own for Breckenridge and Summit County Locals

20 Oct

Here in Summit County, there are a lot of local residents who rent.  Many of these residents rent for years…  All under the assumption that they can’t afford to own.  However, if there is a time that Summit County “ski bums” are able to afford home ownership, it is now.

  • There are 131 properties in Summit County (Breckenridge, Blue River, Frisco, Copper Mountain, Dillon, Keystone and Silverthorne) that are listed for $200,000 or less.

  • 42 of those properties are 2 bedrooms.
  • 38 of those properties have 700 sq.ft. or more!

The point is there are options for locals to buy!  If you are interested in finding out how you can stop renting and start owning email me.  I can put you in touch with a good mortgage broker and find properties that would meet your budget and living criteria.

Here is an informational video from a broker I know in the Denver area.  He makes some good points on reasons to buy instead of rent.  Of course, most locals will want to use a local broker when applying for a loan.

A few fun things to think about when you consider buying your own place!

  • Depending on what you pay for rent and what you are interested in buying, you might pay a similar amount to own instead of rent.
  • You will own your home and never have to worry about your apartment selling midwinter and having to find a new place to live.
  • You can decorate your place to your liking, paint your walls and can even do some home renovations!
  • You can have a pet!
  • Even if you don’t always live in Summit County, you’ll be able to rent your place out or use it as a ski retreat.
  • Never worry about finding a place to rent again!

About dyandevault

I bring commitment, dependability and many years of experience to Summit County. Whether you're buying or selling a home, my goal is to provide superior service and see you through each step of the way. I work as a real estate professional because I have a genuine passion for real estate and for assisting people who are in the midst of a hugely important and complicated process. I feel very lucky to work and live in Summit County. We have such a wide variety of sports and activities as well as an exceptionally well educated and sophisticated population. When a client decides to purchase a home in the area, I enjoy guiding that person through this important and exciting process--whether it is a first time buyer or a veteran home owner. When it comes time to relocate out of this area or move up or downsize , I look forward to helping my clients get top dollar for their homes, while also working to ensure that each transaction progresses smoothly and expeditiously. Prior to my real estate career, I was a real estate investor for many years. After numerous disappointing transactions with other agents, I learned the best ways to treat and protect my clients which provided me with the perfect background for real estate. Helping clients buy and sell their homes has allowed me to use the negotiating, multi-tasking and customer service skills I developed during my corporate sales career, which have proven to be invaluable in my real estate career. I would love the opportunity to meet with you in person and to show you that here at The Devault Real Estate Group we are committed to you for life. Call or email me today and let me know where you are in the buying/selling process. Best, Dyan Devault
